STEVE VAI's Big Mama-Jama Jamathon 2018

STIG MATHISEN: Co-producer

In May 2018, legendary guitarist Steve Vai and Stig Mathisen (as co-producer) teamed up and started planning an unprecedented music event. After 6 months of intense strategizing,  a 53.5-hour long event took place in September 2018 called “The Big Mama Jama Jam-a-thon”, an once-in-a-lifetime event featuring some of the greatest musicians in the world.

Excerpts from the press release:

LOS ANGELES, CA — Steve Vai has announced he will host and serve as the musical director for “The Big Mama Jama Jam-a-thon” — an open, improvisational music/art event where the music doesn’t stop for 52 hours — to be held Sept. 28-30, 2018 at Musicians Institute’s brand new venue, LiveHouse, in Los Angeles, California.

 .......

Stig Mathisen, Chair of the Guitar Program at Musicians Institute (MI) added: “MI is very honored to team up with Steve Vai and Extraordinary Families for this unique charity event and important cause, bringing together the world of music academia and the music industry, benefitting families that are doing an incredibly important job of providing support for children and youth in foster care.”
